ROPE RESCUE I

- Awareness Level Training (20hrs)

This comprehensive course examines the latest vertical rope rescue equipment and techniques available. The program covers equipment technology, rope analysis, basic knots and hitches, anchoring procedures, safety line belaying and rappelling techniques. Safety standards applying to industry and fire services will be addressed. Rigging methods and procedures to reach, lower and raise a trapped victim in a vertical environment will be analysed in detail and thoroughly demonstrated. Participants will have the opportunity to rig and practise all techniques and perform simulated rescues.

ROPE RESCUE II

- Operations Level Training (40hrs)
Pre-requisite: Rope Rescue I or Equivalent)

This course begins with a brief review of basic rope rescue techniques with emphasis on efficient rigging methodology. Participants will learn the step-by-step procedures to evacuate an injured victim from a vertical environment using a basket litter. Topics covered include types of litters, packaging of victims, safety rigging and stretcher raising and lowering in a vertical or horizontal position. Victim management and litter attending will also be addressed. Operation level techniques practiced will include load transfers and knot passing methods. Experience and proficiency will be gained by performing simulated emergency rescues in complex accident scenarios.
